Custom Made
March 31st, 2010I’m back from the East Coast only to come back to the same rainy weather in San Francisco. Oh well! I’m never one to turn down the rain. We’ll always need it!
While catching up on my blog favorites {frolic}, I spotted the cutest custom invites by Niseemade. I’m a big fan of hand-drawn illustrations (even the Lily Spruce logo was something I doodled before it went digital) and love the idea of using them for wedding invitations. See for yourself the cuteness:
It’s not for everyone, but if it fits your couple style, then I say go for it!

March 24th, 2010Small and Bright
March 22nd, 2010My client Colby is a girl who’s firm on her vision for the day. She’s incorporating hues of yellow, green, cream and brown for her May nuptials. When I met her recently to talk about flowers, she stated that she wanted the bouquets to look like we “picked them from the field,” tied a ribbon around it and called it a day. I love that! I’ve sent her a bunch of ideas already, but Colby knows she wants nosegay bouquets (smaller bouquets) instead of big, heavy ones.
Here are some examples:
The butterflies flew right up to the freesias! And check out this bright nosegay from this colorful wedding.
And one more, from Martha.
Love Prints
March 19th, 2010What a cute wedding poster! You could matte this and have everyone sign around the border during the cocktail hour, or this would make a very cute couples gift from the groom to his bride. Or an anniversary present! The best part is that anyone can hang this up in their home for a stylie constant reminder of their love.
Available in several sizes, starting at $55 by Made by Girl. (Love the clothespins detail!)

March 18th, 2010Gorgeous wedding with lots of natural elements and pretty details: the vintage Berkeley license plate on the bike; the grassy setting for the escort cards and the succulents on the table–all at the rustically elegant Faculty Club on the campus of UC Berkeley. Kiss Me Cake
March 17th, 2010Now this, is impressive. Get the how-to here. The baker parsed out seven bowls and added one more drop of green food coloring to each succeeding bowl to get the gradation. Next she baked the bowls, let the rounds cool, then stacked and slathered. Cool, right? Seems labor intensive, but wouldn’t it be a fun display cake at the reception?
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I’ll be making these cupcakes for an Irish-themed dinner tonight with friends…

Borrow This Idea: Chalkboards!
March 16th, 2010I recently met with one of my clients, Colby, and found a fellow chalkboard aficionado! We talked at length about painting plywood with chalkboard paint to go along with my chalkboard stands, her hand-painted signs and in general, create more signage since we’ll be using so much of her venue. She also wants a homemade photo booth as well, and we’ll need signage there too, since it’s self-serve.
I was jumping for joy inside because a) I love chalkboards and b) because I have seen this put to great use, most notably by Jung Lee of Fete. See all her examples below, from her awesome wedding coffee table book.
And finally a chalkboard graffiti wall that can function as an untraditional sign in for guests. So, so fun.
Spring Has Sprung
March 15th, 2010It’s been pure sunshine the past few days in San Francisco, with temps in the high 50s and 60s. Here’s a shot I took while strolling down one of the streets in Winters, Calif., just minutes away from the Farm at Putah Creek–the site of two weddings I’ll be doing in May!
This week and the weeks following, I’ll be chronicling and sharing some design details as these weddings days approach.
Sweet Land of Liberty
March 12th, 2010Of thee I sing! San Francisco is getting doused with rain, so to counteract that, I’ve got florals on the brain! (Whoa, I just rhymed.) The new Liberty of London for Target collection debuts Sunday, and everyone’s pretty dang excited, including me (all personal feelings aside about Target–the fast fashion, the massive use of PVC in products…). It’s hard to deny the cuteness of these products, especially these clutches below, which would make great gifts for bridesmaids.
But, here’s an idea: how about supporting small businesses instead, starting with these Liberty of London-inspired products, like the one below. The Etsy seller, H & J Star Creations, is even using an authentic Liberty of London print! And the price can’t be beat either, at $17.50–which is about what the Target clutches are retailed at. And you’ll have something that no one else will have–how about that?
