Tulle-y Delightful
April 14th, 2010Oh. Oh my. It was the hand-dyed skirt that got my attention on the front page of Etsy yesterday, but this completely knocked me off my feet. And it’s only $840! From Etsy designer and Phoenix, Ariz.-based Ouma.
Along with this gorgeous number too, which the designer can custom-make. Starting at $1,680.
Thanks Back!
April 13th, 2010Didn’t realize I got a blog shoutout and thank you from Jennifer Ramos, of made by girl, for my post on her very cute posters. Check out her store and stop by her blog sometime!
P.S. hellooooo and welcome, Made by Girl readers!
Sweet Treats
April 13th, 2010I pretty much flipped out when I saw this post over at cupcakes and cashmere. Homemade caramels with fleur de sel? Um, YUM! I’ve been seeing a lot of baked goods using coarse salt as a finishing touch, including these mouth-watering brownies. Check out the post and some delectable pictures here, and go here for the recipe from the New York Times’ Mark Bittman.
There is no doubt in my mind that any bride can make these to serve as favors or have in the dessert or coffee bar. I’d grab a handful myself if I were a guest!
All About Jenna
April 12th, 2010I’m betting that 90% of American women have a serious girl crush on J. Crew Creative Director Jenna Lyons, myself included. She’s injected her cool girl, preppy-with-a-twist aesthetic to the brand, and successfully bridged Crew sensibility into bridal with the wedding line in 2004. But before all that–before the “Jenna’s picks,” the J. Crew style spottings of Michelle Obama and the current Fall 2010 collection hysteria–there was Jenna the Bride.
I remember chancing upon a New York magazine bit about her wedding in their bridal issue years ago, while researching ideas for my own wedding. It was an elegant affair on a Massachusetts farm with all the markings of someone employed by J. Crew: long, black bridesmaid dresses; men in kilts and a dewy Jenna with a simple, low-cut dress (which she designed, natch) embroidered with flowers, leaves and pheasants.
I visited the site of her photographer, Holger Thoss, wondering if I’d see any of her pictures in the portfolio, and lo and behold, they were there. I gasped and became still in reverence. I think you’d agree it’s a very muted and lovely glimpse into a day not unlike any of ours who have been down the aisle, surrounded by family, friends and love. Enjoy.
Good on Wood
April 9th, 2010I really love Etsy and patronized it from the beginning, buying notions for my wedding and ties for my husband and all of his groomsmen from Cyberoptix Tie Lab. I also really love that words are being printed on wood now, and while thinking about that process is enough to make my head spin, I’d rather focus on the dizzying delight of the results.
I first spotted the work of Etsian Baumbirdy from this wedding, with these awesome, wooden escort cards.
That sent me over to the shop, where I spied these programs and Save the Dates.
Much as I love paper, there is something instantly grounding about wood. Different, and dignified, without sacrificing any style.
Bicycle Thursday
April 8th, 2010Much as I love couples on bike, there are very few pictures I come across with just the dudes. And so we start here with Jasper, a photographer and newlywed, who got married at at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs. Check out more of the wedding over here, including a pic of the bride’s beautiful Phillip Lim dress. There’s nothing I love more than a wedding dress that wasn’t a wedding dress to begin with. Tiny polka dots? Why not? Grooms on bikes? ABSOLUTELY.

Happy Feet
April 7th, 2010Your Wedding is a Wonderland
April 6th, 2010I *still* haven’t seen the new Alice in Wonderland movie yet, have you? Part of it is that I’ve been traveling and working most weekends, but now that my schedule is a little clearer this month, it’s time. I saw these cute King and Queen of Love stamps available at the USPS store and then remembered the adorable Alice in Wonderland-inspired photo shoot over at Style Me Pretty.
I love the blue ribbon–could be your “something blue”… Don’t forget your timepiece necklace!
Loving the table setting. The bunny is just too much!
The dessert table had me at hello.
Inspiration
April 5th, 2010I’ve been thinking recently about what inspires me. It’s an important question not just in this line of business, but in life too. What allows you to press on, be creative, be bold and brave, to get up and conquer days and nights and months and years?
I saw this image below and thought of one of my clients, who’s getting married in a beautiful San Francisco historic mansion in September. In my head there are elements of regal and purple combined with the couple’s desire for a 20’s deco but modern theme. There’s talk of candelbras and old time-y photobooths. I just can’t wait.
