    Butterflies are Free

    May 27th, 2010

This weekend I’m headed back to the Farm at Putah Creek, for clients Colby and Will. Look for more Do It Yourself details in the coming days and weeks from the four weddings I did this month. Phew! What a May.

I was looking for origami necklaces and spotted these by Bay Areas-based Etsy seller SewSmashing. She makes the same origami butterfly pieces for boutonnières too. Great prices too: 3 for $23 for the hair pins and 5 for $31 for bouquet placement.

    Bicycle Thursday

    May 27th, 2010

From this wedding at the Faculty Club in Berkeley, Calif. Photo by Bay Area photographer Kate Harrison. Check out her blog too, where I saw this Wayne Thiebaud-inspired cake display. Such brilliance! Wayne Thiebaud is one of my faves, especially since he paints cakes and sweets like the dickens.

One of my favorite things about Kate is her devotion to green weddings. She started Bee Green last fall to encourage sustainability practices for her clients. Rad, right?

Which brings me to a Lily Spruce tip: when selecting photographers, ask them how they’re a green business. Do they bike to client meetings? Take public transportation? Shoot digital and send digital after shooting events to save paper? Do they have most of their info on their Web site or PDF documents they can send you, like their rate sheets? All good questions to ask if you really want to have others walk the walk with you on wedding day…

    Pretty in Pink

    May 26th, 2010

Loving the inspiration board that Emily of cupcakes and cashmere developed for her very own, limited edition Coach bag.

Dear Santa Claus, do you work in June? Because I want this bag for my birthday.

    Yours forevs,

    Congrats Ladd & Marisa!

Another client rides off happily into the sunset. Congrats Ladd & Marisa! Beautiful wedding this weekend at the White Barn at Oak Hill Farm in Glen Ellen, Calif. And that pesky rain had enough sense to stay away until after the ceremony too. See  a small video of them recessing.

More details to come… Here’s a little sneak peek of Marisa taking out the mum from her hair, that I took.

    To the T

    May 24th, 2010

Man is it hard out there to find something unique for guys. So when I saw these awesome tees by Out of Print, I got completely excited. Non-obnoxious tees with titles and art from vintage paperback classics. Score! Perfect for gifting the dudes in your life who’ll be reprezentin’ as groomsmen.

    Paper Whites

Not sure where this image originated, but I just wanted to highlight it for its sweet simplicity. Pretty, no?

I’m headed today for another client’s wedding in Glen Ellen, up in Wine Country. That marks the third wedding in May so far! I’ll be back with more details next week.

Bethany + Dan Sneak Peek: the deets

    May 18th, 2010

A few weeks ago, I kicked off the wedding season with the May 1 nuptials of Bethany and Dan on the Farm at Putah Creek in Winters, Calif. (You’ll remember I did Trent and Jean’s wedding there last October.)

While all the shots haven’t been totally prepared and edited to the nines just yet, their photographer Stephen Hughes indulged me and sent these lovelies to my inbox for sharing. Nosh on this delicious eye candy and expect more in the next couple of weeks.

And just a note please that if you are going to use these pictures that you properly credit Stephen and the original source (this blog, essentially) of the photos. You can even notify him or me (g@lilyspruce.com) if you do so. Thanks mucho!

P.S. I have never had such delicious vegan cake in my life, one of which was lovingly baked by one friend and the main two-tier by another, finished on-site. Needless to say, more to come!

    Flower-ing

    May 17th, 2010

A dose of pretty for a rainy day in the City by the Bay. It stacks! It has a flower! I might just get it for myself! From Etsy seller littlellama.

Posts forthcoming this week from the wedding of clients Alex and Alicia, who got married at Alex’s parents’ rose farm in Healdsburg.
