Bicycle Thursday

July 7th, 2011

When I opened my San Francisco Chronicle, I knew immediately I needed to contact photographer Thor Swift for more pictures from the wedding of Alex Zapharis and Gary Fisher, the “godfather of mountain bikes.” Instead of one picture I thought I’d share two. I love the bike procession and pedicab, too. What I love most about bicycling is how slowly you can drink everything in. The trees. The sound of breathing. The kiddie lemonade stand. Combine bicycling and a wedding–prime time for when all you want to do is drink everything in before it dissolves into the evening–and you’ve got one pretty memorable affair. See a video too.

Lily Spruce on Style Me Pretty

June 22nd, 2011

I’ve pretty much adored Style Me Pretty from the very beginning, back when I discovered it as I planned my own wedding in 2007. So it was a wonderful delight to know that SMP chose one of my weddings last August, thanks to a submittal by the wonderful Maya Myers of Maya Myers Photography. I loved all of Rebecca & Jamie’s elements, and it was fun to work with her and bring in some of my signatures like the chalkboard signs and the floral wrapping station where my team and I wrap centerpieces in newspaper and raffia to give away to guests. An eco-wedding with some lovely touches, to be sure. Such a great wedding, I am absolutely tickled! Read more details from my past client Rebecca, who shares how she arrived at many design decisions and greener choices. Thank you again Rebecca & Jamie! And Maya Myers! Joy working with you all…

Elizabeth Dye 2011 Collection

December 3rd, 2010

My love for Elizabeth Dye’s dreamy bridal gowns continues to grow and grow. Ever more with her 2011 collection. While I have my favorites (hello, “Oysters and Pearls”) I do love the vintagesque simplicity and quick hit of olive at the waist on the beauty, “Tempest.”

At First Blush

December 1st, 2010

I’m really into the subtle tone-on-tone colors I’ve been seeing this fall and are starting to creeping into winter now. Leave it to Ashley Olsen to pick up on the trend… and leave me to find some vintage gowns that pick up on the same vibe, below….

Birds of a Feather

November 30th, 2010

Gorgeous, seemingly French-inspired frocks for bridesmaids. But really I can see myself wearing one of these for New Year’s Eve, especially the Roma and Marie! And! They make very pretty brides’ gowns too (see more below). By Quail Bridal.

I adore this “Peony” full skirt, and paired with the tee–so carefree but still bridal. Think you could get away with it for your wedding?

And finally, check out the “Roma“! You can remove the bottom! Perfect for getting your dance on post-ceremony or at the after-party…

Nothing like a beautiful vintage dress to knock you out of the blog posting doldrums. This one’s a stunner, from Etsy seller flourclothing.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope to be catching up on my blog and posting more of the weddings–eight this year!–soon.

Hard + Soft

September 22nd, 2010

I love these turquoise-colored spikes on this necklace! Paired with a simple strapless, column wedding dress like this one from Ann Taylor (only $495!), it’d be dee-vine for a modern wedding held on the beach or at an art gallery. From UK-based Vamoose.

Clean and Bright

September 20th, 2010

One of my all-time style heroes is stylist Jessica de Ruiter. Much like Jenna Lyons, she favors the look of American, classic sportswear-with-a-mild-twist look, but with less embellishment than Ms. Jenna and far more simplicity. Her pieces fit well and are unfussy but still understated, glamorous and clean.

So of course I wasn’t the bit surprised at her wedding dress choice. What I was surprised by, was how natural and bright she looked in it. It’s De La Renta, natch. You can read this Toronto Life article about how the dress was chosen. I think it’s perfection!

What do you think? P.S. I think the groom looks pretty snappy too–Dior Homme. Sharp.

I love the advice she gives at the end of the article about weddings: “The day should feel authentic, feel like you.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Fascinated

I am just utterly charmed by this fascinator combo. The Lillies of the Valley that are holding court are just the icing on the cake!

Once again, from Etsy shop Bohemian Bisoux Vintage, which has wedding vintage galore. Check it out.

Looking at it over and over again, it may have to be mine!
