Modern and Stylish Wedding with Old World Touches at Berkeley City Club
The minute Lauren and David gave me high fives following our initial meeting in our office, I thought “man, they’re great.” From there, our relationship just grew and grew, and I’m proud to call them friends post-wedding. That’s always a super bonus for us, in this work.
One of my fondest memories of the day, amid all the crazy swirling around us (ahem, incomplete rentals--why, despite all the phone calls with the company and planning ?!), photographer Andria Lo snapped the three of us hugging and crying for our "First Look."
I've never felt so happy to deliver a production on this scale for some of the nicest humans around.
Lauren, a curator at a fine arts museum in San Francisco, had a very self-assured vision for her wedding. Not cutesy, nothing seen on Pinterest, or if it was on Pinterest, it was going to be something not traditionally "wedding-y."
With a deep design and art background, it was clear she had a vision that didn’t look like every other wedding. She also took inspiration from the reception venue of the Berkeley City Club, as designed by famed architect Julia Morgan. Lauren consistently drew inspiration from its colors and motifs that were repeated in their design ephemera.
What really, really impressed me was their dedication to crafting a personal and touching Jewish ceremony, steeped in tradition. Every time we’d meet, I could tell that it wasn’t just about the pretty, aesthetic things, but equally, about the ceremony. Their cathedral--the Redwood Grove at the Berkeley Botanical Garden--ensured that this was a ceremony for the ages. Apropos for two very sweet, old souls. We were so honored to bear witness and create something that wholly represented this couple.
Highlights:
Their awesome Cinco de Mayo dinner at Comal in Berkeley, which we helped them choose and plan
A giant, 6’ challah for the breaking of the bread prior to dinner
Inspired by something the bride saw online, Venn Floral created a DIY station during cocktail hour that guests could partake in, to create flowers for hair, or boutonnieres; it was our own personal Flower Mart!
Custom, ceramic vessels for the delicate flowers, commissioned by the florist
Cute cake topper based on an Internet sensation dog from Japan (the country of their honeymoon)
String quartet for their ceremony, full of indie songs that Lauren and David love
